Fellowship Donor Recognition
In appreciation for the establishment of the Fund, Stanford Engineering will provide recognition, involvement, and stewardship of the Fund donors in accordance with University guidelines, which may be revised from time to time, and are currently as follows:
- A listing of The Okokon B. Okon III Fellowship in all Stanford Engineering publications, school, and university web sites which publish the Stanford Engineering fellowships.
- A listing of all donors of $100.00 or more at the appropriate gift level in all Stanford Engineering publications, as well as class, school and university web sites, in the year the gift(s) are made.
- A letter from the endowed fund student recipient(s) each year.
- An invitation to meet the student recipient(s) each year at the annual Fellowship Reception or at a mutually convenient time.
- Recognition of all donors of $10,000 or more as Dean’s Circle donors in the Stanford Engineering annual report, as well as invitations to the annual luncheon for Dean’s Circle donors in the year the gift(s) are made.
- The opportunity to help with outreach and promotion of the Fund’s availability to promising candidates through attendance at awards banquets, campus speaking engagements, contact with SBSE students leaders, word-of-mouth, and other events to celebrate and market the existence of the Fund, through coordination with Stanford University’s Engineering Diversity Program.

The Fellowship Selection Preferences
The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University (“the Board”) shall provide fellowships for graduate students enrolled in the School of Engineering at Stanford University, with a preference for students who meet the following criteria:
- Stanford University School of Engineering students who have elected to pursue a co- terminal masters (1st choice) or doctorate degree (2nd choice);
- GPA of 3.00 or higher;
- A preference for nominations of African, African-American, Hispanic American, and American Indian students, as well as others who add diversity to the School’s education environment; and
After considering the preferences above, the applications will be evaluated on the basis of how the applicants currently demonstrate any or all of the following twelve lessons that Okon taught us all:
- Keep love in your heart for everyone and everything
- Honor your father and your mother
- Put your family - extended and otherwise - first
- Maintain your friendships
- Dream big
- Laugh a lot
- Be positive
- Take good care of your health
- If you really want to learn something, teach yourself
- Commit yourself to constant education
- Travel the world
- Become a lover a music
(this should be music that you would not necessarily hear on MTV)
